We recognise the significant value of subject specific professional development and have brought together the current offer from national associations.

National Association for Primary Education

NAPE are hosting an all-day SEND Conference on Friday 26th April at the University of Bedfordshire, keep an eye on their website for booking links.

There is also a variety of subject-specific videos on their YouTube channel.

Primary Engineering

Primary Engineer^®, since 2005, have developed an engineering curriculum that spans Early Years, Primary, Secondary and Further Education institutions. Its core aims include; the development of children and young people through engagement with engineering, the promotion of engineering careers through inspiring programmes and competitions, the development of engineering skills for teachers and practitioners addressing the inequalities in engineering.

There is currently active funding for Rail Programmes in Greater Manchester however all places are currently taken. There is a waiting list schools can join, further detail can be found here.

There is also a free UK-Wide competition which caters for 3-19 year old’s and up, as part of the Leaders Award ‘If you were an engineer’ Competition. This sees young learners explore engineering from an early age and creatively look at drawing ideas. Its a wonderful program as every child receives a passing grade from an engineer, along with a personalised certificate, with potential winners invited to an Exhibition and Awards ceremony. Young learners are judged against their peer group and regionally over 25 areas of the UK, your local being the Greater Manchester area. Whilst this does not provide CPD, full resources and personal guidance are available to support and is a great activity for ECTs.

In addition, there is a similar free UK-Wide challenge as a data-engineering project, with multiple curriculum links to science, mathematics, computing, engineering as well as english and geography, open to primary and secondary school pupils. STATWARS empowers and educates young learners to tackle climate change using data they capture themselves, similarly along with a host of resources and support to roll out. National Association of Teachers of Religious Education

NATRE (National Association of Teachers of RE) is the subject association for teachers of Religious Education (RE) run by teachers for teachers.
It offers free resources, support, pupil competitions, and more through its website. It provides membership packages, which are designed to meet your needs at every stage of your career. Special discounts are available including packages for groups of schools or multi-academy trusts.

Geographical Association

The Geographical Association (GA) is the leading subject association for teachers of geography. As a registered charity our mission is to ‘further geographical knowledge and understanding through education’.

The Maths Hubs Programme brings together mathematics education professionals in a collaborative national network.

Maths Hubs are led locally by an Outstanding school or college to develop and spread excellent practice for the benefit of all pupils and students.

Maths Hubs fund nationally and locally designed projects and programmes, with a mission to provide sustainable and long-term professional development.

NorthWest 1 are currently hosting a showcase event for primary schools in Oldham and Rochdale who haven’t worked with them before, sign up via their Google Form.

The Association of Teachers of Mathematics

The Association of Teachers of Mathematics (ATM) was established in 1952, to encourage the teaching and learning of mathematics by relating more closely to the needs of the learner.

The CPD team are pleased to introduce ATM Micro-Sessions: A series of CPD opportunities that will take place via Zoom throughout the academic year.

The charge per session will be £5 for both individual members or non-members. All delegates will then receive a £5 voucher to redeem against any ATM publication.
There is also an exciting opportunity for a whole school department to attend for a fee of just £20 which will also include a £20 voucher to redeem against any ATM publication.

Stimulating Physics Network

The network provides CPD, mentoring and coaching for physics departments and individuals developed in collaboration with dedicated physics experts, including serving physics teachers and accredited professionals, which aims to enhance subject knowledge and pedagogical understanding to enable better impact in the classroom. There is no cost to schools who wish to become a partner school.

As a partner school you will be assigned a dedicated school-based physics coach from within your locality. Together you will identify your needs, the needs of your department and agree a targeted programme of support that will address many of the barriers to a comprehensive physics education.
Your coach will plan up to six sessions each year of CPD within the department and will signpost to other provision as appropriate.

National Association of Teachers of Dancing

The NATD aims to promote the enjoyment and knowledge of a variety of dance genres through our teachers’ passion and commitment to the art form. We respect and encourage the diversity and values of individuals and their culture. We are committed to the highest standards of service, integrity and fairness. We offer a range of examinations which encourages a positive approach to achievement and strive for the development of each individual to their maximum potential.

NATD are currently offering a “Early Movers” dance course for 0-5years directed to professionals connected with teaching Early Years. The course works through appropriate activities for each developmental stage giving a safe and secure structure in a class scenario.

There are support materials; themes, songs etc together with a registered trademark logo that are forwarded to each purchaser of the course along with an NATD Certificate and contact details for support and further guidance as required.
